Alvar Sunol Munoz-Ramos Paintings

Alvar Suñol Alvar Suñol Munoz-Ramos, commonly known as Alvar, was born in 1935 in Montgat, Spain, a Catalan fishing village on the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona. By the age of 17, he was accepted into the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge in Barcelona. In 1960, he moved to Paris and exhibited with other major Spanish artists including Picasso, Miró, and Dalí. Today, Alvar is recognized on an international platform for his exploration of the psychological and historical complexities of art-making and creation in relation to one’s environment and experiences. The examination of both interiors and exterior spaces place a significant role in all of Alvar’s works. Alvar strengthens his artistic vision through the use of various mediums including oil paintings, lithographs, watercolors, drawings, bronzes, and ceramic bas relief sculptures. His works can be found in the permanent collection of over fourteen museums worldwide and he has several public commissions around the world, including his most recent bronze sculpture created in honor of Catalan cellist Pablo Casals that is located in Paris, France. Additionally, Alvar has had three consecutive retrospectives since 2014. His first was hosted at Las Casa de Cultura (The Cultural Center) of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. One year later, Alvar had a second retrospective at the Castell de Benedormiens, in Castell d'Aro, Girona, Spain. Most recently, the Castell de Calonge in Girona, Spain recognized Alvar’s lengthy career from 1954 to 2016 with a retrospective titled, Una Vida Pintant (A Life of Painting). Aaron Fink (American, b. 1955) Hand signed and dated 1986, verso. The large canvas size measures approx: 72" x 66". This painting is part of the artist's "Images of Gambling" series, amongst his best figural work. Aaron Fink was born in Boston in 1955. He received his MFA from Yale University and his BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His work has been exhibited widely throughout the U.S., Europe and Japan and Australia, and is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, among many others. He lives and works in the Boston area. He has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Muskegon Museum of Art, Michigan, the Rockford Art Museum, Illinois, and Colorado State University, Fort Collins. Figurative abstract expressionist art. In 2002 a monograph on Fink’s work, Out of the Ordinary, was published, with text by Eleanor Heartney. In 1983 Fink met the collector John Powers, who remained a strong supporter of his work until his death in 1999. Fink’s work is represented in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Hara Museum, Tokyo, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, among many others. Fink currently divides his time between Boston and Rockport, Massachusetts. He was included in the show The Expressive Voice: Selections from the Permanent Collection at the Danforth Museum of Art. An exhibition of Boston Expressionism, a school that embraced a distinctive blend of visionary painting, dark humor, religious mysticism, and social commentary. Historical roots of this movement can be traced to European Symbolism and German Expressionism, but artists living and working in the Boston area from the 1930’s through the 1950’s, were particularly inspired by Chaim Soutine and Max Beckmann. Artists included; Aaron Fink, Bernard Chaet, David Aronson, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Hyman Bloom, Jack Levine, Jackson Pollock, Jason Berger, Karl Zerbe, Lawrence Kupferman, Michael Mazur, Sigmund Abeles and Willem de Kooning. He was included in the show 40 Years of Printmaking: From the Center Street Studio Archives, along other great figural artists Gabor Peterdi, John Walker, Lester Johnson and Nell Blaine. Story Short-story Once upon a time, five women met up at an outdoor café. They sat around the table sipping their coffee and chatting, one caught everyone's attention, because she was dressed up in a metallic suit, complete with robotic wings, resembling a robot bee. The others were impressed by her outfit and asked her about it. She explained that she was a performance artist and was on her way to a show. Another woman pulled out a cigarette and started smoking, ignoring the "no smoking" sign. The others frowned at her, but she just shrugged and continued puffing away. The third woman had a dead bird. She explained that she had found it on her way to the café and had brought it along to see if anyone could identify the species. Just as they were about to order their food, a swarm of bees suddenly descended on the café, buzzing around the tables and chairs. The women panicked, swatting at the bees and ducking for cover wondering why they had worn so many flowers. But then something surprising happened. The woman dressed as a robot bee stood up and raised her arms, and the bees suddenly started swarming around her, as if she were their queen. She calmly led the bees away from the café, and soon they disappeared into the distance. The other women were amazed, and the smoker even stubbed out her cigarette in awe. They all thanked the robot bee woman and chatted excitedly about what had just happened. The time traveler was fascinated by the scene in front of her and watched the women with interest. She noticed the woman with the dead bird and wondered how she had come to possess it.
